American Soccer Legend and DJD Client Tab Ramos Profiled by NY Times
The New York Times recently profiled Tab Ramos, an American soccer legend, and DJD client. Tab, a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, is currently the head coach of the prestigious U.S. men’s national under-20 soccer team. Prior to taking on the coaching duties of the team, Tab played in three World Cups for the United States, and was the first player to sign with Major League Soccer, where he played seven years with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls).
The New York Times detailed a trip that is “part of American soccer folklore” known as “the helicopter story” involving a young Tab Ramos, then a high school junior at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey. Tab, only 16, was playing in the FIFA World Youth Championship in Acapulco, Mexico when he found himself stranded after missing his flight home, and the New Jersey state soccer playoffs set to begin half a continent away. After a series of phone calls, a late night corporate jet ride, and helicopter trip over Manhattan, Tab arrived just in time for the start of the playoffs and scored five goals in the process.
